Promise

When I was young I had my whole life scribbled on a piece of paper
I treated life like a person who should do me a favor
I never tried for anything
I never impressed any one
I was just a kid with a little bit of promise

I learned very early how to get my way
I always lied, cheated and stole day by day
I didn't have a clear focus
Friends kind of made me nervous
And I never kept my promise

Life lessons come at you very fast
So swiftly you feel under attack
Nothing seems clear
All that you feel is fear
And you feel the world has broken its promise

Depression shatters your soul from the I side out
A life full of wonder, is now full of doubt
No desire to run
What happened to fun
And where's the world's promise?

Out of the ashes hope rises strong
You find inspiration from a country song
Little by little
Step by step
You start keeping your promise

We look back and smile on a time so long ago
The seas were Rocky, and the boat struggled to stay afloat
Destiny fulfilled
Mission accomplished
All because deep down a little boy showed some promise

#4Trey

A soaring smile
A golden heart
A soul that shines
The darkest of dark
An laugh with purpose
A heart full of service
A prayer for those who didn't deserve it
An honest man
With a sun kissed tan
A world full of hope
Even with the slippery slope

You emulated what a man should be
You treated strangers like family
Your smile would wipe away 1000 tears
And somehow God only set to give you 28 years
You were a hero until the day you died
And that was the day my brown eyes cried
